Have you recently adopted a bunny? These guys are adorable little pets! We all know that Floppy needs a comfy cage, a good diet, and proper veterinary care. However, these little furballs need much more than that to really thrive. A Wichita, KS vet lists some great bunny care tips below.

Lots Of Toys

Rabbits are very curious and playful. They also have open-rooted teeth, which never stop growing. In the wild, bunnies often wear their teeth down on tough plants. However, since pets have softer diets, they need to chew a lot. You can make many of your bunny’s toys yourself. Look online for ideas and instructions!

Bunnyproof

Never underestimate Floppy’s ability to get herself into trouble! Make sure that your home is safe for your curious little furball. Some of the things you’ll want to address include toxic plants; chemicals, such as cleaning agents, automotive products, and lawn/garden products; ropes and cords; and anything small or sharp. You’ll also want to protect or treat things like baseboard and furniture legs, and seal off openings behind and beneath furniture and cabinets.

Offer Lots Of Free Time

Your furry friend will get restless and unhappy if she is stuck in her cage all the time. Floppy should have several hours of free time every day. This is a fun time to hang out with your bunny!

Don’t Overlook Grooming

Bunnies are quite clean, but they do need some help here. Some rabbits, such as Angoras, need to be groomed daily. Even shorthaired bunnies need to be brushed daily when they are molting. (Note: if you aren’t familiar with molting, it basically means that your pet will explode a few times a year, and grow all new fur.) You’ll also need to clip Floppy’s nails and clean her ears. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Expect Rabbitude

Rabbits are super cute, but they aren’t perfect. Floppy can actually be a little bit stubborn, and more than a little bit opinionated. For example, many rabbits are very particular about how they like their cages to be arranged. Getting to know your pet is half the fun!

Pay Attention To Floppy

Pets are always happiest when they feel loved and safe. Pay lots of attention to Floppy! Pet her, talk to her, and offer her toys and treats.
