Summer is just about here! This year will definitely be much more fun than last year, as things are opening up and starting to finally look normal. We know that many of you are likely making big plans for the next few months. It’s probably safe to say that some of our canine patients also have some things on their agendas. Here, a Wichita, KS veterinarian lists some things on Fido’s to-do list.
Explore
Dogs have a very healthy sense of adventure. Fido loves to run and play outdoors when it’s nice. Take your pooch on a one-tank trip, and visit a new park or trail with him.
Dine Out
More and more restaurants and cafes are becoming dog-friendly. Take Fido out for a fun dinner with a friend.
Enjoy A Cold Treat
Want to get that cute tail going? Treat Fido to some doggy ice cream, which you can find in many pet stores or supermarkets. You can also make your pup something from scratch. Put some shredded meat or kibble in an ice cube tray, and pour sodium-free broth over it. You can also make your own doggy ice cream. Look online for recipes.
Play
One of the many things we love about dogs is their lust for life. Fido is the picture of joyous exhilaration when he’s racing after a stick or ball, or jumping up to catch that Frisbee. Carve out plenty of playtime with your furry bff!
Splash Around
Our canine pals are pretty divided on their opinions about water and swimming. Some would happily spend all day splashing around, while others just don’t care for it. If Fido likes swimming, then by all means indulge him. Just keep a close eye on your pup when he’s near water. If your pooch isn’t a swimmer, get him a kiddie pool to play in.
Beg
Rain or shine, Fido will still work on his begging skills. You don’t want to spoil him, but there’s no reason not to indulge him occasionally. Just stick to healthy snacks.
Relax
Dogs are great at reminding us to slow down and smell the roses. Enjoy some downtime with your furry buddy. Pull up a seat on your deck or patio, and unwind by reading or listening to podcasts while Fido relaxes at your feet.
